About the lumpsum calculator
A lumpsum investment puts the whole amount to work on day one. It suits money you already have, such as a bonus, maturity proceeds or the sale of an asset, provided you can stay invested through market ups and downs.
The formula
P = amount invested, R = annual return, n = years (compounded annually).
Frequently asked questions
Is a lumpsum better than a SIP?
Neither is always better. A lumpsum gives more time in the market; a SIP spreads your entry over time and builds a habit. If you have a large amount but worry about timing, an STP can combine the two.
Are the returns guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund returns depend on markets and vary from year to year. The calculator uses one constant rate to illustrate the effect of compounding; actual results will differ.
